Yes, I suppose it does make sense to leave only one space after a full stop. I do not know where the practice originated, all I know is that I was instructed to use two spaces when I was a schoolboy.
The only case I can think of for a double space is it gives pause to the reader especially when reading aloud but it would be nice to learn the correct practice. Unfortunately, none of my references to grammar or correct writing practice, provide a clue.

This product goes to show that men really do like the smell of a woman's vaginal odour and the smell of their dirty knickers so women need not cover their smell up with horrible perfumes. Women should be flattered to think that their vaginal smell is nice and exciting to (most) men and this should give them confidence if a man asks to have a little sniff up their skirts.
