freshfry a year agoI have several friends with college degrees (and I’m not talking art history, they have hard science degrees) who can’t find jobs and are trying to pay back student loans. They are forced to work at places like Wal-Mart. They are overqualified and unhappy. If it weren’t for graduate school, I would be in the same boat.

I think the point is that many in this age demographic have gone to college and have some debt and are finding it hard to get a entry level job within a profession which can lead to middle class stability. No one minds starting low on the totem but all the growth for this demographic is in the service/ non- professional sectors.

Who wre the top 5 employers of 20-29 year olds five years ago? Ten? Twenty? Is the inference that It’s easy to make a statistic look bad when you don’t set a benchmark. If you want to validly represent this, you’ll also need to take into account the 20-29 population in 2011 versus the 20-29 population historically. Also worthy of mention is that WalMart is the nations top non-military employer overall. All that said, these are all worthy jobs that likely provide some semblance of health insurance and benefits in a time of sadly-high unemployment.
