I live in Austin (because that’s where I work) and I agree. Austin has good PR, because truly, there isn’t a whole lot for a tourist to do unless there’s a big festival like SXSW or ACL going on. This whole kumbayah/diversity thing is bs. Austin is an overwhelmingly white city, UT-Austin is an overwhelmingly white university, which is fine but they are super sensitive about it all the while gentrifying the lower-income, heavily Latino areas. Houston is an ugly city, but very underrated as far as activities and culture. It is truly diverse, has quality museums and performance art, and you’ll find oil magnates, yuppies, hippies, recent immigrants from all over the globe, college kids, pretty much everyone there.
