That's some severe condescension right there. Fifty bucks says that whoever wrote it isn't nearly as smart as they believe themselves to be.

OK, I'll admit that I laughed when I first started watching the video, but after a little while it becomes clear that this woman is insane - like, not “insane” in the reactionary/closed-minded/bigoted sense, but literally a paranoid schizophrenic. I researched a bit, and she is indeed a diagnosed schizophrenic (and kind of famous in Lincoln, NE). It seems unfair to laugh at schizophrenics - schizophrenia is a very serious condition, and for those afflicted, logical, rational thought becomes more-or-less impossible. I think the most interesting thing here is how this video relates to the broader political context: the idea that a schizophrenic rant could feel not so far-off from mainstream right-wing political discourse certainly should tell us…something.
I think folks are a bit confused here - this isn't some hardline Republican claiming that Obama is secretly gay. As 'jakes15' mentioned, this is a riff on Toni Morrison's referring to Clinton as “our first Black president” in 1998. The author here, Andrew Sullivan, is conservative in many ways, but he's also openly gay and is certainly a strong proponent of gay rights…
I was gonna post something about how this is a really inappropriate use of the word “pedophile” (which really bothers me when it happens, for some reason) but 'a short haired girl' already said it well. So, ditto on 'a short haired girl'.
Well said
For some reason #11 cracked me up. Just like a mosquito.
Wow… I'm not surprised that there are people who think that way, but I am surprised that in the year 2012, that article could make its way into a well-designed, professionally-produced publication (and I just gave them more traffic, hey…). But, I guess they publish other, similar stuff, too; Jim Goad's “Trayvonnosaurus Rex” includes these gems: “Half-retarded “racial arsonist” Al Sharpton, apparently unashamed of showing his face in public after supporting the dubious causes of Tawana Brawley, Crystal Mangum, and the Jena 6, naturally fled down to Sanford, FL and led a mostly black crowd in a series of primitive chants and possibly subliminal voodoo incantations.” “With all this talk about hatred I must confess that at the moment, I feel filled with hatred—at least up to my gills and possibly up to my sinuses. But I am willing to take a polygraph test to determine which group I hate more—American blacks, American politicians, or mainstream American journalists. The boys in the hoodies wouldn’t register a blip.” (But, it's worth noting that Goad is an interesting writer with a long history of intentionally pissing people off…)
Good list, but as others have said re: #1 - that “reality” apartment looks like a cool, spacious artsy/loft place; in reality, you're more likely to get a dingy place with low ceilings and ugly carpeting. Also re: #4 - NYC really does have an incredible wealth of art and culture, much of it accessible for very little money - you just have to have some willingness to seek it out.
So, can someone explain to me what's so bad about PHP?
When it comes to angry obituaries, nothing tops the Dolores Aguilar obit from 2008: http://www.snopes.com/media/iftrue/obituary.asp
