  • when i was a kid, my uncle used to play his michael jackson cassette tape really loud that you can hear michael sing from every room of the house. i credit my uncle for getting me interested and ultimately a fan of his music. his music transcends generation. i'm just 18 but never did i think that his music was old or uncool.

  • My college roommate and I dancing in the hallway to a newly-released Thriller. Dancing like only two see-through white guys can dance. An age of innocence lost. Rest In Peace my gloved friend. You need the rest and deserve the peace.

  • Easy….seeing MJ and his brothers at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, TN on the 1984 “Victory Tour”. Blew my young mind. A juggler opened up for them and when he did a routine to “Purple Rain” the place erupted in oddly good-natured booing. Oh, and the Jacksons did a King Arthur/sword in the stone routine live for some reason. Sweeeeet.

  • I was 8 years old, and it was 1984. My best friend's sister took the two of us to see the Jacksons Victory Tour. We had total nosebleed seats, and we were pretty much relegated to watching the giant overhead screens in order to even figure out which little speck on the stage was Michael. When they did the “Sword in the Stone” bit, I realized that I really couldn't see him… I cried like a baby all the way home and afterwards because I couldn't see Michael. The next week my mom took me to the eye doctor and they realized I had severe astigmatism. After getting the first pair of glasses, which resembled the large, red plastic frames Sally Jesse Raphael wore, my swift descent into geekdom began. Thanks, Mike.

  • No doubt this guy had some serious emotional baggage, but I never really believed the whole child abuse thing. I somehow just think he was one of those guys that never allowed himself to grow up, because becoming adult, growing old, and eventually dying was just too scary to think about. I remember when Thriller premiered as well. Quite the occasion, and it was difficult to walk into any dance bar and *not* hear it.

  • One of my earliest memories was my older sisters' bootleg VCR tape of Thriller..I watched it during the day and made it 5 minutes..scared the shit out of me. Now it's still scary but needless to say, also pretty damn amazing.
