Fuckin’ Australia.

This show was big in Australia 20 years ago but died in the late nineties. It was a family orientated, variety type, live show that was shown weekly on Saturday night (hence the name and lame font!). They had a segment called “red faces” where amateurs would perform against others to try to win a prize. The segment was generally loved by the viewers for how bad/lame it was. Fast forward to 2009. In a bid for ratings Ch9 decided to bring “Hey Hey it’s Saturday” back as a RETRO look at what the show was like. They also invited some of the older “red faces” acts back to perform again.  I believe if Harry Connick Jr knew all the facts before hand he may not have over reacted.  I found it funny when Harry Connick Jr told Dave Lettermen that he had a Black Rooster called Obama and a White rooster called McCain. After the election he killed the white one.  - perhaps I should have been offended.

I have met plenty of racist Australians and plenty of racist Americans. Racism in any form isn’t good…unless it is funny (and dealt equally to everyone). The more we joke about our differences the less it becomes an issue and the faster we move past them. The problem is, as I agree with Whitney, is that it wasnt funny. Actually to be honest non of the Australian “comedy” shows I have seen have been funny, so maybe that should be their primary societal concern…

As an Australian I’d like to say that everyone who saw this here knows this is racist, we just don’t care. It’s hard to talk about race without being labeled a racist if you don’t use the set list of politically correct words and phrases, so I won’t. I’ll just say I’m not surprised this made world news, but nobody over here really gives a shit about this.

Was anyone else more offended by the program’s shameless use of Comic Sans typeface?

Awkward to watch, but it takes such class and integrity to take a stand like he did, so gracefully (especially when you’re not on your home turf). The Harry Connick hotness factor just flew off the charts.

Australians being racist? I’m shocked.

Wow. That was pretty good, Harry Connick Jr. Thanks for that, I’m not sure how many celebrities might have done the same thing.
