Jeffrey Fletcher, former guitarist in 90s Britpop band Northern Uproar, who found fame through the song "From a Window", was killed instantly in a road accident this week.
The band, who are on tour in Northern Ireland, said they would be playing some of his songs last night.
His family released a statement through Greater Manchester police which read:
We wish to remember our loving, caring, gentle giant Jeffrey Fletcher for his love of music, his talent on lead guitar and most of all, his infectious laugh.
The outpour of love and wishes from friends old and new shows us how loved he has been and this is a comfort to his family.
We cannot comprehend the fairness of a loss of someone who had such success as a young man to have had his life cut so short in such a tragic and sudden way.
He will be dearly missed by his family and all that knew him. Goodnight Jeff.
Fletcher was a founding member of the band until they split in 1999. He re-joined when they reformed in 2004 but left last year.
In the mid-1990s the band were the subject of extreme hype in the music press, with Noel Gallagher an early champion. They went on to tour with The Prodigy and The Charlatans and had three singles in the top 40.
