Every child is gaga over the folktales. And it gets crazy when he/she gets to see that folktale as a motion picture. Here's one such tale called 'Jack The Giant Slayer/Killer'.

Jack The Giant Killer: An English fairy tale that’s quite famous among the children. More than being just a fairy tale, the whole story has this historical significance which is quite interesting. The story is about a guy who kills a number of giants during the rule of King Arthur. In Welsh and Breton era, the giants have been quite prominent phenomena. Also the prominent elements of the Norse mythology are quite visible in the tale. Also a number of incidents have been taken from much other folklore.

Other than that the tale is mostly inspired by the violence and gore...’Jack The Giant Killer’ as the name suggests. ;) So, the story is basically about a young Cornish farmer’s son, Jack who slays the giants of the Cornwall. The giants have been infamous for all the wrongdoings in the town. It’s quite a plot hoe he manages to kill all the giants in the story. King Arthur’s son also enters the story here. Jack becomes his servant and from there, it becomes an adventure story of Jack and The Prince for a while. This little adventure spree turns out to be quite rewarding for Jack. The Prince gets married to an enchanting lady and from there onward Jack further continues his journey alone. With all the rewards that he gets from his journey with the prince, he kills another set of giants. And this slaying somehow saves a girl who’s a daughter of a Duke. Jack ends up marrying the Duke’s daughter at King Arthur’s court who gives them an estate where they live happily ever after.

Quite an adventurous story with a hint of romance, isn't it? What’s more fun is the fact that this lovely story is now a motion film. Yes, you must have heard of ‘Jack The Giant Slayer’. Haven’t you? This Hollywood movie portrays the story of Jack in a refreshing way. The sad thing is the movie couldn't garner the attention that it could have. The lack of star power might be one big reason for that. And the other reason could be the change of name. The makers of the movie decided to go with ‘Slayer’ instead of ‘Killer’. It was said to be more kids friendly or parents friendly, for that matter. Whatever it is, that somehow made kids feel less excited about their favorite adventure story.

Anyway, this movie is definitely a must-watch for all those who have read the story of this giant killer in their childhood. You might get a glimpse of your another favorite folklore, i.e. ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. It’s indeed a pleasure to watch this folklore come alive in a motion picture.
