I have a theory that Doug (the nickelodeon version, the only version IMO) takes place in a post-apocalyptic society where the upper-class has somehow evolved or bred in cooler shades of skin. I noticed that the Bluff family (purple, powerful political family), Skeeter (blue, extremely intelligent), even Mr. Dink (purple) who appears to have a lavish disposable income seem way better off than whitey…  the caucasians seem to be an underclass in this futuristic society. Patty seems pretty poor and Doug's family terribly middle class.
