One of the all time classic trios: how could we exclude Steam Powered Giraffe? In this more subtle number, the lads combine interesting harmonic progressions with deceptive poly-rhythms to convey a sense of poignancy and loss deeply embedded into the roots of Steam-punk.

At number three comes a controversial record by GHOSTFIRE (featuring ex Abney Park violinist Nathaniel Johnston) While many say the band have strayed too far from the more intimate sound of Steampunk with this number, we disagree. Next up, hailing from San Francisco USA comes Vernian Knights with their legendary cover of Sergei Prokofiev's "March of the Knights". We can't help but feel that Prokofiev would have loved Steampunk having himself lived through the 20th century industrialisation of the USSR. Good job lads!

Finally we have Volbeat and their 2013 release Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies. Just as Alexander Flemming unwittingly discovered the Penicillium fungi leading to a revolution in anti-bacterial medicine, it is often said Volbeat, through their careless use of hill billy licks and intense polyrhythms accidentally helped craft the Steam-punk genre. In any case, this full hour-long release packs some great hits and will provide the perfect soundtrack to any dinner party or gathering amongst friends.
