What was so frustrating about this controversy was that, (1) people splintered into two apparently opposing groups (“humorless feminists” vs “rape apologists”), (2) both groups were having two completely different conversations (the integrity of an art form vs the perpetuation of rape culture), and (3), therefore sides were speaking over each other and wholly dismissing valid perspectives.
