What an overlong snoozefest of an article. I blame the subject, though, not the writer. I like Darrell's comment that she's a Che T-Shirt, especially since she's the Williamsburg Hipster's answer to Rage Against the Machine. Yawn.

So she's a Che Guevara t-shirt. Still, I think the author's assessment of the Born Free video as naive might be unfair. Unsophisticated, sure, but Americans require that kind of ham-fisted bluntness in our politics.

And the best part now is a lot more people are going to read the article! MIA, thinking things through as usual.

That was a really well written article. And MIA responded immaturely. Which is disappointing, I liked her.

Maybe she doesn't like M.I.A. but the bitterness is a bit much..and from the very beginning. If she wants to reveal something negative about M.I.A. without alienating anyone who enjoys her music or doesn't already straight up hate her she could've done a much better job. And even if I hated M.I.A., I'd still think it's a dick move to interview and follow someone for a while and then write something like this.

Harsh or reality? Most of today's pop stars are contrived and gimmicky. She's tapped into a niche and she's playing it out for what it's worth. Glad to see people out there calling it out for what it is. Now Hirschberg needs to do a Lada Gaga piece or is that just too obvious?

I thought Hirschberg's article was pretty brilliant, especially on calling MIA on her totally ignorant stance on Sri Lankan matters. Plus, any sort of obstacle in her way is some sort of conspiracy because she is so ~controversal~. Whatever. I like her music, but most people barely knew she existed before 2009.
