18 Reasons Why Students Should March On 18 October

This Saturday the TUC is organising a mass demonstration in London, making the case that Britain Needs a Pay Rise. Here's why students should march too:

1. Your student loan goes in...and straight back out again

As rent and bills continue to spiral but government support remains frozen, students are facing a funding shortfall of almost £8k

2. Every winter you delay putting the heating on for as long as possible because you're scared for your bank account.

3. You can't afford real food so you make meals out of whatever is left in your cupboards

4. Everyone keeps telling you to "go out and get a job"...

5. But no-one seems to understand that there are NO JOBS

6. The salary on the jobs that are available is depressing

7. And that's if you're lucky enough to not have to work for free for six months in an unpaid internship

8. Your parents just don't get it

9. Six per cent of students have even taken out a payday loan to help make ends meet

10. Apprentices don't have it easy either - they're expected to live a decent life on just £2.73 an hour

11. We can carry on trying our best to scrimp and save...

12. ....doing what we can with what we've got...

13. Or we can get our voices heard instead

14. Because the government want you to think austerity is the only way

15. But we know better

16. You need a pay rise, they need a pay rise, Britain needs a pay rise!
