Being from Hawaii, we don’t have many Black people and this is an attitude that a lot of ‘local’ polynesian and asian, especially Japanese for some reason (they’re usually the richest, so probably that). Plus, in Hawaii people are very blunt about race to the point where this wasn’t even that surprising to me. However, doing it on a talk show? In front of a black guy whose been nice to you? That’s some big balls.  What show is this?

That was awesome. Not the guy of course, but the response. Too bad the show (presumably) isn’t about that stuff, or I might just have to watch it for hours. On a different note: I grew up in Texas and I was taught that, when you generalize about huge swathes of people based on where they come from, it’s called bigotry. Yes, even if that place is Texas. You can’t fight prejudice with more prejudice. This idea is not meant to equate centuries of black suffering with the “poor down-trodden Texans,” but to ask that people should consider the roots of all hate, and the process of “othering” large groups of people into a supposedly inferior position.

Black culture has it’s share of problems, but on the whole… black people have made more than their fair share of contributions to national culture, music, etc. I am in awe of their ability to turn pain, hardship and poverty into soul-stirring art for two centuries now.
