I actually agree with American Apparel (never thought I'd say that). Everyone constantly complains about plus-size/average-sized women not being represented in stores. So why when a store goes and makes a positive step like this, do we treat them this way? Why would any store follow in AA's footsteps if all they're going to get is bad publicity? If you want larger sizes in clothing stores applaud and support the companies who are listening. All this is going to do is turn off future companies from attempting the same thing.

  • The entire point she was trying to make was that they basically used the “throw the fat chicks a bone” marketing ploy. I got the impression that they thought plus size women would just accept all the puns and “poking fun”. The attitude is basically “well if they want our clothes, there's nothing they can do about what we say about them. They'll have to buck up or deal with it”  And yes you can argue that if plus size women were offended by the way that they marketed their clothes, they don't have to buy them. Which is true. Most plus size women know this and will do exactly that. It is extremely difficult to find plus size clothes, find nice fitting ones, that also look good, and don't cost $50 for a top. And the “well then, lose weight” attitude doesn't apply to every plus size woman out there.

  • its because on the main contest page, before it ended, was so filled with puns about fat women that it was crossing the line into mockery. the title of the contest was “next BIG thing.” none of it seemed to take plus-sized women seriously whatsoever. it was insulting, to say the least.
