WWE Faces Backlash After Wrestler Pulls Down Russian Flag On Live TV

Long story short: It pissed off everyone in one way or another.

WWE has once again caused controversy after an incident that saw the Russian flag seemingly disrespected on this week's WWE Raw.

Some fans were angered by the segment.

#WWE has plenty of fans in Russia. Wonder how they feel about that. I don't know, seems kind of wrong to me. #Raw

WWE apologizes for disrespecting Russia's flag. I for one was disgusted by their blatant disrespect. http://t.co/fKlvBDFCwo

    WWE immediately issued an apology.

However, the majority of fans were more angry at WWE for apologizing.

WWE apologized to Russia over the flag thing? Come the fuck on.

Many were angered by an apparent double standard, arguing that the United States seems to be disrespected every week as part of the storyline.

@WWE Soooo you can insult the US week after week, but insult Russia once and you have to apologize? Such Bs...get it together

There were many, MANY tweets along the lines of this one.

Russia can bomb planes and nothing happens. America uses their flag to be part of a story and they have to apologize. Okay.

And, well, there were fans who were just sick of wrestling in general.

@WWE apologizes to Russia bc of a flag but can't apologize for crappy storylines? @WWECreative_ish

This is not the first time the pro-Russian storyline involving Rusev and his manager, Lana, has gained negative mainstream attention.

Days after the MH17 disaster, the WWE used a subtle reference to the event as part of a program.

It's also not the first time WWE has found itself in hot water by degrading a country's flag.
