How Macklemore And My University Contributed To My Comming Out Day Commemoration

Colorado State University is a haven for acceptance.

Macklemore asked us "put a one up in the air for equality..." and CSU did. It was two years ago where the highest self doubt was running through my veins, it was two years ago where I couldn't look into the mirror and admit to myself the truth I knew that I possessed, it was two years ago where the direction of my life would take a drastic turn and I soon realized that I couldn't change... even if I tried. From that moment on, I realized that trying to fill the expectations of others had zero congruence with my own happiness. I decided that in order to function as a HUMAN being, I needed to be completely honest with not just everyone around me, but myself as well. I owe my greatest gratitude to the outstanding support system who were there to honestly... not give a shit and just love me for me. I owe all my thanks to the friends, family, ex-girl friends, and CSU community members that were the most accepting and comforting when I expressed the most doubt on being accepted. Someone's sexual orientation is important enough to lay the tracks for someone's future and the expression of their love. But by no way the means to be judged in accordance to the content of their character. Happy coming out day, everyone! Keep up the great work!
