Trust Is Like A Floating Beach Ball

    Thoughts on Proverbs 3:5.

Proverbs 3:5 says, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and do not lean on your own understanding."

Sometimes I want to trust God, but I keep on holding on to my pride.

It's a bit like a beach ball floating in the deep end of a pool. You know it will keep you afloat if you grab it.

But just moving closer to the beach ball isn't enough. As long as you have one hand on the edge of the pool, you'll never be able to grab it.

Half-hearted efforts to grab it will keep it out of reach.

That's just like my experience when I don't follow the words in Proverbs 3:5.

"God, I trust you. But I trust my own understanding a bit more right now."

It's only when I let go of my fear and hold on to God with both hands that I truly trust Him with all my heart.

And in my 32 years, I've seen His deliverance over and over. I believe I always will.

It doesn't mean I don't think. I use all the gifts God has given me to understand the world, but in the end, I hang all of my hope on following His ways.
