I am queer and while I was surprised at the similarity between the tracks, this has nothing to do with the message that Same Love is espousing. Tell me, what is the difference between Macklemore’s standing up for gay rights and all the white people who spoke up for black rights in the fifties and sixties? He’s bringing up the topic of gay rights in a community where there is so much hate and derision (rap). Anyone that supports gay marriage and is willing to put themselves out there to help us is fine in my books. Same Love is getting the message out to a demographic that may otherwise not hear or care about the struggle for equality. Did we judge all the musicians who spoke up about starvation in Africa because they weren’t hungry? Really!
