Puck Drops Into Goalie’s Pants For Bizarre Game-Winning Goal

“I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

In overtime of Monday night’s Phoenix-Buffalo game, Sabres defenseman Mark Pysyk fired a low shot on goaltender Mike Smith and then attempted to flick the rebound up and over him for the game-winning goal. And it worked. Sort of.

What actually happened is that the puck never fell back on to the ice, but instead landed in the back of Smith’s pants.

Smith then skated into the net, searching for a loose puck that was never there, and unknowingly crossed the line with the puck, giving Buffalo the win and Pysyk his first goal of the season.

The announcers couldn’t believe it and everyone was confused.

So the officials took another look at it and determined that, yes, it was a Christmas miracle.

Yep, hockey is weird like that sometimes.
