10 Reasons Nick Cave Should Be Your New Favorite Person

We all could make room for one more Australian man in our lives, especially when he's one of the best singer-songwriters of the last 30 years.

1. He's very prolific.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, his most well-known group, began 30 years ago in 1983. Their fifteenth studio album, Push the Sky Away, was released in February 2013.

Then there's his other two bands, The Birthday Party (left) and Grinderman (right). Both the Bad Seeds and Grinderman played at this year's Coachella fest.

2. He writes some pretty intense stuff...

"Loverman" off of Let Love In.

3. ... some pretty badass stuff...

"Stagger Lee" off of Murder Ballads (yes, a concept album about murder - believe it or not, Kylie Minogue is on it)

4. ... songs about life and death...

"The Mercy Seat" from Tender Prey.

5. ... and damn tender love songs.

"Black Hair" off of The Boatman's Call.

6. Back in the 90's, he rejected his nomination for MTV's "Best Male Artist" in a letter eloquently denouncing competition in music.

It started off quite calm.

Then got quite excited.

7. He doesn't just write music.

He's a novelist.

And a screenwriter. He wrote a script for a Gladiator sequel that would've been equal parts weird and awesome. He is also reportedly doing a rewrite of the upcoming Crow remake.

8. He's one sharp-dressed man.

It's hard to find a photo, even while on stage, where he's not sporting some class.

9. Not that he didn't have his bad-boy punk days.

Maybe it was a Bukowski phase.

10. Lastly... the 'stache.

A beacon of virility and machismo.

That has since been shorn.
