I worked inventory/back room at an mature ladies clothing store. We were in a mall, so we had a back door to receive shipments and there was a set of huge smelly garbage compactors right outside the door to the left. During the summer I was processing some clothing, folding and refilling when I noticed something on the carpet near the door. I picked it up thinking it was a bit of rubber. Nope, it was a soldier fly larvae. I flipped my shit, screamed and cried hysterically. Came out to the floor blubbering and hyperventilating. My boss proceeded to send me home. The next day I was called into her office and reprimanded me for succumbing to a phobia and that it was none of her business if I had an irrational fear and that I was to continue performing my job. They couldn’t stop the flow of the nasties in. I tried every manner of spray and pesticide I could imagine with no luck. They would play dead, dry out and SURPRISE! So I had to build a little 2 inch platform to raise me off the floor to keep them from crawling on me. I left my job soon after that, a nervous wreck. The leadership was so unprofessional.
