I saw Kevin Smith speak many years ago and one of the funniest stories I’ve ever heard was why he hates Reese Witherspoon and refers to her as Greesie Reesie. In short, even before she was famous, she was acting like a self-righteous, holier than thou hag. Not surprising the second something even small like this happens, she starts with the “do you know who I am?!?!” routine.

An interesting question. Are there any comedians in scientology? Seems like the very nature of a comedian - observant, questioning, mocking and making fun of things - would automatically conflict with scientology’s methods. It would be too SP.

That is the real issue here nobody wants to discuss. The slave wages these people get. That is the real problem, restaurants not wanting to pay workers. But regardless, I am canadian and right now, minimum wage is $10 an hour. So here, not only is a server already making a decent wage, but then they still get tips over an above that. I used to deliver pizza so I didn’t get min wage, just $2 per delivery plus tip. I would drive in rain storms, blizzards, etc, show up freezing or soaked with a fresh pie and NOT get tipped. So I get it. But what bugs me is how the auto tipping does NOT encourage good service, but entitlement and how the expectation for what is a “standard tip” seems to keep going up.

While I agree that this was a dick movie, both from the pastor AND Applebees, this whole automatic tipping thing needs to be addressed by society. I have worked for tips in the past, so I know what it is like. But it used to be if you did your job well then you got a tip. Then tips became expected completely regardless of service quality. So automatic tipping becomes a norm. It used to be 10% was the “expected”. I often gave 15%. But then 15% became the norm. Now, where I live, I am already noticing that all these bills and debit/cc machines have 20% as the default tip. Seriously? 20% automatic tip completely unassociated from the level of service I get? Sorry, but automatic tipping needs to stop.

It was clear to me this show was going to be horrible right from the start. It was ridiculous and unbelievable how obsessed everyone in the show was with Marilyn. Marilyn was name dropped in every single conversation and every character had some story about how influential Marilyn supposedly was to their life and their career and their life philosophy, etc. Seriously? What self respected actor or singer would point to marilyn monroe as ANY sort of influence? This made the show come across, from the start, as one of the worst Glee “theme” episodes, desperate to find a reason for its own existence. Nobody gives a crap about marilyn monroe other than hollywood itself. That made the show little more than a big circle jerk about how much hollywood is in love with itself crammed into a tv show.

No, I got that. My point was that we shouldn’t make broad generalizations and assume that because some people behave one way it means all other members of the same sex are exactly the same. I’m saying there are legitimately nice guys out there who don’t expect anything. Some may want and hope more, but doesn’t mean that they are jerks when they don’t get anything more. Friendship, like any relationship, needs a clear understanding of expectations and if those expectations don’t match, there is no friendship in the first place.

I really don’t care if she lip-synced or not. It seems to be the trend these days. However, I do think that if you are a signer, and make your living as a singer, and people are paying you to sing but you lip-sync…that is borderline fraud. That applies to all singers. You have one job and if you are taking money but don’t do what you are paid to do, then you are ripping people off.

I wonder, the one comic says that these “fake ncie guys” are just emotionally manipulative and bitter when they don’t get their way. I think the same could be said of women who know men are interested in them and keep them in that “friend zone”.

Yes, there are guys who only pretend to be nice because they think they will get something out of it. Yes, there are women who have passed by a number of legimitely nice guys in order to date assholes and then complain about all mem being jerks. However, I’m also pretty sure that finding a “mate” is a sort of competition which is often why jerks get more women than “nice guys”…they are often more confident and aggressive in pursuing those they are sexually interested in.

I don’t think his issue is with women who are comic fans, at cons, or women cos players or even women who want to sex up the characters they dress as. His anger seems more directed to the women, likely hired by someone, who are paid to dress up and get attention. Women who know nothing about comics and, as he says, possibly look down on comics and comic book readers and normally wouldn’t give them the time of day if they weren’t being paid. But his concern should be directed at publishers or the con organizers or whomever it is that hires these women to draw in WAY more public and media attention than such an event would normally get. His anger is misdirected and comes across as someone who got turned down for a date and looking for someone to blame.
