People want to consume content according to their preferences not their services. Radio begat MP3 players, Cable TV begat DVRs, E-mail begat dedicated e-mail clients. Blogs begat RSS Feeds and the appropriate clients. For twitter, its success lies with the developers who filled in the gap they could not fill. SO force feeding a standard this late in the game only alienates developers and users. There’s a reason I use multiple Twitter clients/apps. Each has something that appeals to me on that specific platform. While commendable, Mike Kruzeniski’s vision of UI based on inspiration/design directives derived from print design — is an ideal that will be hard to enforce since Twitter doesnt own the entire ecosystem.
