    Although menstrual cups are usually around the $30-40 range, they can last up to TEN YEARS with proper cleaning and storage! The cup pays for itself within three or four months, and ends up saving you thousands of dollars in the long run!

    2. They're Low Maintenance

    Unlike tampons, which need be changed every four hours, you only have to deal with your menstrual cup every twelve hours! The cup shape is able to hold more of your flow than your tampon can absorb, so leakage is a non-issue.

    3. They're Better For Your Body

    Unlike pads and tampons, which absorb your body's natural moisture, menstrual cups collect only your flow, getting rid of that obnoxious dryness and irritation. Also, there is little to no risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) associated with menstrual cup use. Additionally, tampons have been shown to leave behind trace pieces of cotton inside of the body after removal, EWW!

    4. They're Eco-Friendly

    By using a menstrual cup, one person alone can save over 11,000 disposable pads and tampons from entering our landfills and water systems. Since the materials used in disposable menstrual care products are often not easily degradable, this makes a HUGE impact on our environment.

    5. They're FREE at the University Health Center!

    Yup, you read that right! The Mighty Menstrual Cup is an exciting new pilot program at UHC, which will provide forty lucky students a FREE Diva Cup (the most popular brand of menstrual cup) -- all you have to do in return is fill out a quick user satisfaction survey!

    Menstrual cups save you money, they're low-maintenance, they're better for your body, and they're eco-friendly, making them a great option for UMD students.
