To everyone jumping to conclusions based on the above data, I would like to remind you of a fundamental statistical principle: correlation is not causation.  Just because gender/race and knowledge of whom we gained independence from seem to be related does not mean that gender/race affects that variable. There may be lurking variables.

Don't feel bad. This data represents a population of busy shoppers that were too dumb to avoid getting roped into participating in a survey.
