Seriously?
Sports Buzz Tulsa, Oklahoma is making a bid for the 2020 Olympic Games. Much of their argument centers around Tulsa's similarities to Atlanta and the cultural attractiveness of Native American culture. They also want to show the progress they've made since 1831's Trail of Tears.
Seriously?
HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.
Trail of Tears? C'mon, if you're going to bash Oklahoma, there are more recent examples you could have chosen. There are some pretty shameful things in the city's past as well as a few unexpected treats (one landmark, Cain's Ballroom, the birthplace of Western Swing, later hosted the Sex Pistols) I grew up in Tulsa and while I don't think they have a snowball's chance in Hell of actually attracting the games, I think Tulsa could probably handle them given a ten year head start. They already have a few big arenas that can handle various sporting events and are working their way through a massive infrastructure improvement project. I know it's fun to make snarky comments about small town rednecks who delude themselves into thinking they're a big city, but Tulsa has really been hit hard over the past few years and they're going out of the way to rebuild their economy and restructure the city culturally. I gotta give them credit for at least TRYING to do something this ambitious. I wish them the best of luck.
this is from the powerpoint the tulsa olympic committee gave
these are the 2 themes they decided on
