This Giant Python Ate A Deer

A 16-foot long Burmese Python that had recently consumed a 76-pound female deer was found in the Everglades this weekend. The snake was one of the largest ever found in South Florida. I don’t want to live on this planet anymore. posted on October 31, 2011 at 12:06pm EDT

First of all, I acknowledge that releasing your pet (and sometimes illegal) snake into the wild is a completely irresponsible thing to do.
However, it’s not like snakes are responsible for a bunch of deaths each year. Introduced species of animals can really throw an ecosystem out of whack, I get that, but these are not killer animals. (For comparison, I checked out how many deaths are caused by snakes each year in the U.S. There have been 7 recorded deaths from snakes - from venomous bites, not constrictors - since 2000. In comparison, there were 33 deaths from dog attacks in 2010 alone.)

watched a program on WETA’s Nature last night about the very real problem of Burmese pythons (introduced species) in the Everglades because they’re eating alligators. They showed one eating an alligator…um..it was..um…yeah you’d just have to watch that for yourself…
