Giovanni Lido a year agoIn re the politics of it all… I for one am an outspoken (but usu. not too rude) atheist who loves teh gheys, hates Islam, and, while not a “right winger” (whatever that means) am definitely *NOT* a left-winger. I don’t want prophets of make-believe gods telling me what to do and I don’t want the self-appointed morality police of big government doing it either.

Atheists mock religious people that try to force their views on others (i.e. their attacks on reproductive rights and so on). Atheists don’t care if you go to church, and they don’t care about your personal choices. But atheists aren’t out there lobbying, for example, that people have to use birth control. That is a big difference, to those who think the two groups are the same.

I wish all my fellow athiests could just respect people’s relgions. I think it’s ok to mildly make fun of different relegions, but don’t flat out call other religions “stupud”.

pasici a year agoI think Stephen Fry argues it best when speaking about the dangers of institutional religion. Your belief in a god is not what offends atheists (at least not the arrogant ones) but the systematic, continuous, and unabashed persecution and oppression of others on the part of a self-righteous, gluttonous religious institution.

MisterJ4y a year agoYou have to love people saying they support tolerance and freedom, attacking another group for no reason. (this goes for all groups, not just those depicted here)
The atheists who are doing so are no better than the fundamentalists (because not all Christians are hate-mongers as people would have you believe, just as not all Atheists are elitist pricks).
Holding signs that basically (or literally) say “Fuck [enter religion here]” is just as hateful as what the Westboro Church is doing.
Please, in a rally based on reasoning and logic…. please use some. -

IcemanD a year agoWhat atheists tend to forget is a belief in God (or a higher power) does not require a belief in religion. Saying there definitely is no god is just as ignorant as saying there definitely is one. Believe what you want to believe but don’t state facts for things you cannot prove. You may wonder what I believe. I believe I don’t have enough evidence to make a statement on God’s existence (or a higher power) either way. What I do know is established religion is not the answer for me.

SitaSky a year agoThese pictures gives me hope and make me feel less alone in the world. I am a proud atheist and I’m sick of people making us out to be smug elitists who hate religion. We want the same things religious people want: A good job, a happy family, laughter, love, peace and looking at cute animal pictures on the internet.

summerkindofgirl a year agoMy mother started to read the bible and go back to church. She went twice on Sunday, then yesterday was trying to tell me that I need to find god. If I was driving I would’ve drove into the nearest over pass and crash right into that. Let’s find out that answer right now! Please, leave me the hell alone with your religion. There is a reason why I can’t worship a fictitious person. I’d rather worship the sun.

these people are not protesting against religion (while they clearly aren’t believers); they are protesting for equal recognition and consideration as that given to those who follow a religious dogma
