when the woman said some art should stay in museums i was thinking, “so i can keep my kids away from art and raise my them to be uncultured and stupid just like america wants its people to be!” in Europe there are statues all over the place that are like this and nobody says a dang thing, come on Texas you’re making us look bad!

Let’s talk about the really upsetting issue here - how awful that statue is.

It’s not even a good replica and even if it was, penis or not, it still looks tacky on a lawn.

Jesus Christ, I’m ashamed to be an American sometimes. We love violence so much it’s our #1 export, we’ll slut up 12 year olds and put them on camera, but heaven forbid anyone ever see a boob/dick/whatever. That being said, it’s an ugly statue and BEGGING to be vandalized.

Oh geez, this is ridiculous. I live in the south as well, and I see this type of sexual repression and fear of the NATURAL processes of the human body all. the. time. If you teach your children that vaginas and penises are shameful and wrong, then how can you ever expect them to have a healthy relationship with themselves and (in the future) their significant others? It is art that this man has on display. The human body is a beautiful thing. Don’t be so scared of it!

When I was a kid, right after my parents divorced, my mother, brothers, and I moved to an apartment complex that had a fountain at either end of the main road. One was a standard, cascading, birdbath looking thing - the other featured a statue of David. Every couple of months, two things would happen: the birdbatch would have green dye and soap flakes dumped in it, causing colorful foam; David would be fitted with underwear or a jockstrap.
