14 Steps That Will Evolve Your Views On Gay Marriage
Attention! People who don’t like gay people! Read this!
1. Step 1: Blame yourself.
2. Step 2: Realize gay marriage is inevitable. Statistics show people’s views are rapidly changing on the issue.
3. Step 3: Imagine how stupid you’ll look in 40 years.
5. Step 4: Listen to Louis CK.
6. Step 5: Let go of the idea that same-sex marriage is ruining the sanctity of marriage argument.
7. Step 6: Take a closer look at the Bible.
9. Step 7: Read their story and watch their video. Try not to cry.
Ed Watson was 78-years-old with Alzheimers. He was worried that by the time the court finally ruled on Prop 8, he wouldn’t be able to recognize Derence, his partner of over 40 years.
Unfortunately Ed passed away in December. He was never able to marry Derrence.
11. Step 8: Take a look at the people in your own life. How many couples do you know that have stayed together as long as these couples?
Maureen and Cindy have been together for 37 years. They live in New Jersey with their 2 children. They cannot get married.
Kathy Glass and Carmah Lawler have been together for over 30 years and are from Colorado. “Kathy has a way of being able to laugh at almost anything even though at our age there aren’t that many things to laugh about,” says Carmah.
Lee & Bert have been together for over 25 years. They live in Illinois. Recently, Bert had a heart attack and Lee and wasn’t allowed in the emergency room because they weren’t married. Lee had to tell the nurse his marital status was single even though he had been with his partner for 25 years.
14. Step 9: Imagine their wedding.
15. Step 10: Look how happy these people are.
27. Come on, seriously.
28. Step 11: Ask yourself if you could say no to these kids?
31. Step 12: Ask yourself if you could say no to Neil Patrick Harris?
32. Step 13: Look at the consequences.
33. Step 14: Imagine the alternatives.

summerkindofgirl a year agoAt first for me it was strange, but I live with a dad that hates gays. (forgot to tell him I’m a bisexual… yikeeesss) Then I grew up and I realized I don’t want to be discriminated against. Even though I will keep this from my family, I just don’t want them to know. I don’t want them to treat me any differently.

zcesb11 a year agoOSA , vile people like you are the disgusting ones. What right do you have to deny people their human rights? Your attitudes are why young gay teens kill themselves, why hate crimes happen. You have their blood on your hands. and the saddest thing is that you just won’t listen. We could give you every reason under the sun why you’re wrong, and you would carry on. I would never wish harm on another but honestly the sooner outdated attitudes like yours die out, the better. Then the rest of us can get on with our lives.

Moshi_Moshi a year agoGay rights shouldn’t be an issue parallel religious rights, especially in the United States. Personally, I have no issue with religion, to each his own. But when religion is used as a basis for prejudicial behavior and legislation, that is where I have a problem. Yes, the US is a predominantly Christian nation, but we are all religiously and ethnically, diverse, and it should be understood that people also have different sexual orientations as well. This is a matter of basic human rights. It is horrible that couples that have been together for years and decades can’t even care for one another when they fall ill, or can’t have children because the law says so. Like Louis CK said, it really isn’t going to hurt the way of life for anyone just cause a gay couple got married. It’s really just a matter of equal rights for all.

lm83 a year agoall these arguments are worthless. the main topic is gay marriage. why does anyone care if 2 people of the same sex marry? it does not affect anyone else in any way. your neighbors getting married, gay or straight, will not affect you going to work. it will not affect you sleeping. it will not affect you cashing your check or drinking or taking your family to the movies. it will not affect your pathetic lives. so i just dont get it. someone please explain to me how ANYONE getting married is going to stop you from living your life????!!!

TroutMaskReplicant a year agoActually, it appears YOU cannot read. This is the only paragraph that discusses “dou’lo”:
“For one thing, Roman slaves were either taken as the spoils of war or were such because they sold themselves into slavery (known as “bond-servant”). They were often well-educated (cf. Gal 3:24 in which the “tutor” or better “disciplinarian” or “guide” of the children was usually a slave). The normal word for “slave” in the New Testament is the term dou’lo”, a term that in earlier centuries usually referred to one who sold himself into slavery; later on, it was used especially of those who became slaves as the spoils of war.”
Now please point out where it says that term was used after Biblical times. We are only given the phrase “later on.” Nothing else. But whatever. I’m done having a one-sided debate. If you’d like to actually think for yourself, and show it, instead of providing links to websites that debate for you, be my guest. In the end, it’s thinking like that where natural selection really rears its head. We will have civil rights, cuz you guys are dying off. Have fun. -

TroutMaskReplicant a year agoOSA, according to your link, a “dou’lo” meant either someone who sold themselves into slavery or were spoils of war. So slavery’s okay if the slaves are spoils of war? I’m not sure why you pointed that out to me. (Okay, actually, I totally know why you pointed out to me—cuz of the former definition. But then the latter definition cancels that out, morally speaking. Lolz.)

TroutMaskReplicant a year agoOSA, your link’s basic message was “Slavery back in the Bible days wasn’t as bad as the American south’s slavery!” Nowhere, it should be noted, did it speak to the simple fact that by today’s standards the slavery that was accepted by Christians back then would be considered WRONG by anybody and everybody. I don’t know how you could contest that. We have grown past slavery as a people. I’m sure we can both agree on that simple fact. So why still uphold a similarly outdated 2,000 year old “law?” Also, please note that I never once called you a name. You, however, called me ignorant, and referred to homosexuals as perversions.

TroutMaskReplicant a year agoOSA, you can “help” me by answering one question. One simple question. That’s all you gotta do. Since the New Testament wholeheartedly advocates slavery, then do you also advocate slavery? That was not a hostile question. I simply want to understand this logic better, because right now I’m not. Thanks.

TroutMaskReplicant a year ago“I think you need a good church. Best of luck to you. I can’t possibly explain it to somebody that is ignorant and hostile” It’s shit like this that pisses me off. People like OSA hold these beliefs that are literally challenging civil rights in America, and they can’t even form an intelligent argument beyond “go to church?”

Ilovenewsocks a year agoOsa…why don’t you just tell us why good Christians only follow certain parts of the Bible?

-
TroutMaskReplicant a year agoYo OSA, do you also feel that —slavery is a good thing? —women shouldn’t hold authority over men? —epilepsy was caused by demon possession? I could go on. How do you give such weight to the New Testament when it’s full of so many blatant logical and physical fallacies? That is the DEFINITION of picking and choosing.
