6. Step 5: Let go of the idea that same-sex marriage is ruining the sanctity of marriage argument.
7. Step 6: Take a closer look at the Bible.
9. Step 7: Read their story and watch their video. Try not to cry.
Ed Watson was 78-years-old with Alzheimers. He was worried that by the time the court finally ruled on Prop 8, he wouldn’t be able to recognize Derence, his partner of over 40 years.
Unfortunately Ed passed away in December. He was never able to marry Derrence.
11. Step 8: Take a look at the people in your own life. How many couples do you know that have stayed together as long as these couples?
Maureen and Cindy have been together for 37 years. They live in New Jersey with their 2 children. They cannot get married.
Kathy Glass and Carmah Lawler have been together for over 30 years and are from Colorado. “Kathy has a way of being able to laugh at almost anything even though at our age there aren’t that many things to laugh about,” says Carmah.
Lee & Bert have been together for over 25 years. They live in Illinois. Recently, Bert had a heart attack and Lee and wasn’t allowed in the emergency room because they weren’t married. Lee had to tell the nurse his marital status was single even though he had been with his partner for 25 years.

lindar10 a year agoYou know, nobody see’s to realize that this is all a big gigantic loop. First it was Christians hating on Homosexuality. Then now it’s Homosexuality hating on Christians and then it’s going to loop all over again. Because either side has their hate for one another, but people seem to forget the ones that are trying to make peace. You got your hateful Christians like the westboro baptist church. Who are the kind of Christians who take advantage of the bible and use it for their own greedy gain. That thinks they can do God’s work and Judge them. Then you got your hateful Homosexuals, who just plain don’t like anyone who is labeled or claims to be Christian. Who harasses them and instills fear in their heart to feel ashamed to be a Christian, without even giving them a chance to realize that, they may just not be that kind of Christian. I believe that it’s God’s job to judge, not Christians over all people. I also believe that Homosexuals should take a lesson on their own struggle to become open about their sexuality. On giving some Christians a break. Not all of them are hatefull. Homosexuals don’t pile the good and peaceful Christians with trash like westboro baptist church. Christians don’t pile the good and peaceful Homosexuals to trash like pedophiles or rapist. People don’t seem to realize the peace that their could be, if both sides would just love and support each other. No shoving beliefs down each others thoughts. Their will always be different opinions, but things are much easier if you would respect it and leave it. If they want to know more, then they will ask. Nothing will change if everyone just focusing on hate. The way people say “Gays are stupid” Is the same effect when people say “Christians are stupid”

bryanc15 a year agoWhat gets me is so many people scream fairness to all, equal rights, respect my right to marry who I want, yet you dis respect the people that do not agree with you and all you can do when you debate someone on this issue is resort to name calling and you wonder why you never get marriage rights! Show some respect to the people that disagree with you bring intelligence to the debate instead of ignorance and watch how far your cause will go~

Happy a year agoHonestly,the only reason that I have to be against gay marriage is that seeing men and women of the same sex hugging and kissing each other makes me uncomfortable. Especially the flamboyant gays. It makes me uncomfortable because I live in suburban SC and have never been around many people who are openly gay. So thats the reason why I think many people in the south are against gay marriage. We are just truely ignorant to this way of life.

Equal rights for all and if there is scientific concrete evidence that shows me gays getting MARRIED has a negative affect then i will be against it but seriously marriage is a privilege we choose gays show be able to choose it too…. they will live the same way they do now it will just be legal for them to have the same rights all straight people have, when you see them in public its just going to be the same they will still kiss hold hands cuddle and be normal homosexuality is not a illness people who are so stuck up on themselves believing that they have the right to uphold Jesus word how each person lives their should be between them and Jesus as long as it does not violate state and federal laws that we have in place just because you go to church it doesnt make you a policeman of moral standards

Gay guys should stop playing with stereotypes, that what’s scaring the conservatives, my dad is against gay marriage because he thinks they’re superficial and obsessed with sex. They should show my dad and other conservatives that they’re actual people with as much depth as other kinds of people.

For all the people saying that marriage is a sacred religious institution that should be protected from gay people making a mockery out of it…. I’m straight, but I am a huge, church hating, christian bashing ATHEIST! And I can get married whenever I want. I’d be more worried about people like me who think marriage is a joke than people who desperately want that sacred vow.

There is something called “Separation of church and state” in this country. Marriage is a religious institution, the government had nothing to do with it. It is not a right, saying marriage is a right is like saying doing cocaine is a right. The majority of people that have a problem with gay couples getting married are not homophobic, there religious. I’m tired of small minded bigots using race and homophobia as a crutch for there arguments. I think it’s perfectly fine if gay couples get a civil unions that gives them the same rights as a married couple, but that’s not what they want. Calling there union marriage is just a way for them to piss off religious people, which appears to be there goal.
