Why everyone needs to get the HPV vaccine:
HPV is the main cause of cervical cancer in women. There are about 11,000 new cervical cancer cases each year in the United States. Cervical cancer causes about 4,000 deaths in women each year in the United States.
2/3 of the cancers of the tongue and tonsils are caused by HPV — and 80 percent of these cases occur in men.
FDA has licensed the vaccine as safe and effective. The vaccines were tested in thousands of people around the world. These studies showed no serious safety concerns. Common, mild adverse events reported during these studies include pain where the shot was given, fever, dizziness, and nausea. As with all vaccines, CDC and FDA continue to monitor the safety of these vaccines very carefully.
