1. Representative Walsh is best known for her emotional speech on the Washington Senate floor. She was one of a few Republican representatives to vote in favor of gay marriage.

2. On November 6, Washingtonians will vote on Referendum 74. The measure, which would make gay marriage legal, is currently in favor of passing by 15 points.

      It’s sad that it seems to take having lgbt family members to turn these people around, but I’m glad it happens. Every republican who sheds their bigotry is a win.

        Having a friend or family member come out as gay is the very best way to shed any anti-gay feelings. In your head a whole group of people are labeled as “other”, as less, as not up to snuff. Meanwhile you love your friend or family member and think the world of them. Then the two become one and you have to reconcile. In most cases, these days anyway, the love wins and forces you to let go of the idea that gay people are “other”. They become people first and foremost instead of gay first and foremost. You’re right that it stinks that many people can’t see it before then, but it’s the same way with lots of things, lots of cultural and subcultural situations.
