@jtp: Oakland is a place where all the local and gov't liberals try some shitty ideas or let the liberal voices be heard and then have the local gov't and cops move in with serious aggression to “restore order” when the money and power people feel the “kids” are done for the day. It always seems to be a case of let's bring ___ program to Oakland and they miss the mark more often than help. Oakland to me is the poster child of what elitist/NIMBY liberals create in an urban environment. It's all about help the poor and disadvantaged, but I don't want them in my neighborhood in Piedmont or North Berkely etc. or Homeless people, well as long as they are downtown or in some shitty neighborhood, they are cool with it (for the worst example of this see San Francisco, they are the the pinnacle, all the high and mighty liberals in SF say we need to help the homeless and treat them with respect - which is great and I agree with- so they let them run wild! Camp on the front lawn of city gov't buildings and panhandle tourist areas. The homeless acting out and aggressive panhandling hurts local business and nearly everyone's impression of SF). Go to the civic center area and then head up to Pacfic Heights or Cow Hollow and see the difference. Yes, most cities have the rich part of town and the poor part, but this is like fucking Brazil or something how different it is. I love San Francisco, it is sad how things have come to pass. And yes, I've lived in SF, Oakland and Berkeley for years and years (not anymore though).
