No waffles with the chicken?! OUTRAGE!

OK. Honestly, those are pretty much culturally Black foods, so what's the fuss? I have had Black co-workers and friends feed me that stuff (and NBC forgot neck bones while we're at it). Not all Blacks like those, just as not all Germans like sausage and sauerkraut, so…uh…I think “no harm no foul” applies here. And jalapeno cornbread is awesome! YUM.

*sigh* Everyone knows the proper beverage for this meal is Grape Drink.

Eh, it's no different than tacos for “Mexican” day or spaghetti and meatballs for “Italian” day or stir-fry for “Chinese” day… They are all bastardized American ideas of cultural food. The day I get an Al Pastor taco for Mexican day or real southern Italian meal, then I'd have a problem with this. If anything I'd do a curry goat, or chicken and waffles.

My university had pretty much the exact same menu as this one on Monday. I was slightly taken aback.

Doesn't NBC know that Martin Luther King NEVER DRANK AQUAFINA WATER? He was a Dasani dude all the way. I seriously do not understand how eating southern food = a tribute to black history month. How about instead of eating high fat foods you find some other way to “honor” black history month?

I ate at a soul food place in Killeen, Texas that was just outstanding. I had the meatloaf. With iced tea that I'm surprised didn't put me in diabetic shock. They kind of had a menu that was a little bit like what NBC put up. Perhaps however, it just seems out of place here. I think there is a way to do it right and I don't think any offense was meant here, just, this isn't it.

They forgot watermelon for dessert.
