Something’s gotta be done about this kind of disproportionate sentencing, especially when it comes to drugs and other non-violent crimes. 10 years for $31 worth of marijuana? Give me a break. There are people in jail for aggravated assault, an actual violent crime, serving less time. Ridiculous, the prison system in this country is screwed up
I agree that if you break the law you should be held accountable for the repercussions that come with that. That should include the CIA, DEA, State Department, and any other government agency that involve themselves drug trafficking. That or decriminalize drugs. You can’t have it both ways.
I get the arguments that she willingly participated in an illegal activity that could result in all of the consequences that she is facing now. However, it’s time. It’s time that we demand that marijuana—a less dangerous substance than alcohol—is legalized fully and completely. Screw the economic arguments, it’s a moral issue first and foremost.
I understand the do the crime, do the time idea but shouldn’t the punishment fit the crime? Wouldn’t this woman be a more productive member of society raising her children, working, paying taxes, etc..? It costs approximately $45,000 to house an inmate per year, over 10 years that will be almost half a million dollars!!! Does that make any sense to anyone? No wonder our states are bankrupt.
