miked00d a year agoA lot of people are saying the kid was forced, but I think when this kid is old enough he’ll look back and be proud. Let’s not forget that, unlike religion, homophobia and intolerance is not something that a child should be allowed to decide for themselves- they should be taught that equality is important.

The Uniblogger a year agoI agree with the general sentiment around here: I am definitely a fan of gay rights but not a fan of coaching kids to say things. Whichever side of the political, religious, etc. spectrum you are on, don’t use your kids to further those views. It feels icky.

cheryllacombs a year agoDon’t have a problem with gay people. Thought the young man who spoke in front of congress recently did a tremendous job. DO have a problem with any parent who uses their child to further their own political issues and uses said child in a public place AND furthermore, then publishes said minor on a youtube video. This parent pushes her child towards Ms. Bachman, then practically forces the words out of his mouth TWICE. Shame on you as a parent; gay, straight, or otherwise …

vagtastic a year agoIt annoys me because the kid was obviously apprehensive about doing this because he was so quiet and his mother kept pushing him to say it. Let kids be kids - if they give him a wonderful upbringing I’m sure he’ll be an awsome gay rights activist but until then, don’t push it.

alekt a year agoHere’s the thing: kids are coached to spew homophobia too. You think the 8-year-olds in the Westboro Baptist Church organization independently decided to hold up “God Hates Fags” signs? The point is that, whether or not the kid was coached or encouraged to say what he said to Bachmann, his mother IS gay. She’s not “forcing her political viewpoints” on him. She’s a gay parent, raising a kid, and what he’s saying is basically just straight-up fact. His parents are a same-sex couple; political viewpoint doesn’t have much to do with it.

Riff a year agoUgh, I wanted to like this, but the kid was so obviously coached into doing this. The mom nudges him forward and prompts him with “Is there something you want to say?”
Then the kid says something really quietly, to which the mom tells him he can say it louder. I’m sure the kid loves his mom just the way she is, but that should be enough for his mom. Getting him to say that to Bachmann won’t change her mind, much less that of anyone else, and only racks up view counts. -
