Look at you showoffs! This video is funny but you didn’t know what it was then either. I remember having this same conversation and asking, “But why?” You’d see commercials for home computers and it would say something about having a free trial of Prodigy or Compuserve and you’d be like “What is that anyway?” but you didn’t really care because you didn’t have a computer. Only about 1/5 of households had one as of just the year before this video.  Only a tiny percentage of people were online at that point and knew what online meant. They’d been using it for a long time, but were such a small group, relatively speaking. You could still hear the quotation marks when people would say “internet”. Even in a year later they were still pitching to an audience that wasn’t sure what it was or why they needed it.  Smaller universities at that time might have had a single connected computer in some dark corner, with most people on campus not aware of it or if so, not clear about its purpose (also OMG check out those mom jeans - that fly must be like 10 inches long. I’m telling you, we just didn’t see it).  The first graphical browser had only debuted the year before and Netscape and Yahoo were founded the year this aired. The www is what made the masses aware of the internet, but 1994 was still the spark phase of the explosion. Love,

Sooooo my dad was really into technology, and still is, one of the only dads I know who can transfer funds on his phone ha, but he taught he how to use the web and how to type when I was six, which was 1993. This seems rediculous to me.
