Hippos are scalovores (only eat scales)! crocs and hippos constantly clash when faced off with one another, the hippo will bite to kill the croc but will ONLY eat its scales and leave the de-scaled but still alive body. I live in New York City BTW, where wild is the norm around here.

You can clearly see the other half of the Croc on the other side of the hippo's head… But hippos biting crocs are still ba.
