I would still like to know how LGTB people rectify their presence in a religion that has no place for them and will not accept them. The Mormon church has turned its back on people for far less. And while I think it’s great that BYU is becoming more tolerant, it does not mean their church will.

dawnmarier a year agoI am a mormon and I think this video is beautiful, I believe ( a personal opinion), that god loves gay/lesbian people as much as he does a straight person. God loves these kids and will continue too, love who you are, embrace it, others will always disagree with something you do In life the only people you need to please is yourself and heavenly father. My husband and I are two of those young people who were married, I do not think there is anything wrong with marrying young. If I had not found the church I would not be who I am today, I am thankful for the gospel, I am thankfully to my heavenly father. Please know that I love all my brothers and sisters in the church no matter the sexual preference.

“The BYU honor code isn’t bigoted. It is equally prohibitive of both homosexual and heterosexual activity outside of marriage. Gays don’t have it any worse than straights here.” Yes, they do, and it’s way past time to admit it. LDS students (at BYU and elsewhere) are encouraged to marry as young as possible (For males, this means after their 2-year mission, when they are at their horniest.) Of course, gay marriage is verboten, so gay students do not have the option of finding a partner for life (or eternity, in the LDS view) to whom they’re actually attracted. It’s enough of a challenge for straight Mormons to find someone they love deeply in a religiously-restricted dating pool, but most of them eventually manage to pair off — if not out of compatibility, then out of mutual horniness. Gay Mormons are sentenced for life, either to (a) loneliness, or (b) a closeted marriage (a substantial risk which, more often than not, leads to heartbreak for both spouses). To all my LDS friends who still think this is not an unreasonable doctrine, I urge you to view your own life through the looking glass:
Imagine that you belong to a religion and a culture which discriminates against straight marriage. The gay majority could easily grant you the same rights & privileges that they enjoy, but their clergy have lied to them, scaring them into believing that straight marriage will somehow, indirectly, lead to the downfall of civilization. (Maybe it will become airborne?) Your only choices, as a straight Mormon, are (a) celibacy for life, or (b) a closeted marriage to someone of your same gender. Maybe if you pray hard enough, the Spirit will sprinkle you with a dose of bisexuality so you can better cope with your situation. God speed, Brothers and Sisters!
