I’ve just spent the last five minutes trying to figure out what the percentage would be for the (made-up and totally not real) TGS with Tracy Jordan. As near as I can figure it, women make up 40% of the writing staff… unless Pete is counted among the writers. Then it’s 33.3% (Liz and Sue vs. Toofer, Frank, Lutz, and possibly Pete) Also, based on the chart above, shouldn’t TGS have like 10 more writers?
Are you out of your mind? Funny’s a male gene, you idiot. Haven’t you ever noticed whenever you see a really funny girl, she’s a little mannish? Think about it. Lily Tomlin, Ellen DeGeneres, Rosie O’Donnell… I wonder if
anyone will get where this is from lol
There’s a deeply Neanderthalic part of me that looks at the staffing quota at the Chelsea Handler show and thinks, “Well, there’s you’re problem.”
I can’t speak to the rest of the shows, but I do know that women make up 40% of staff at The Daily Show. Isolating the one statistic marginalizes the contributions of the other women on that show, including the 3 female correspondents, the women who work in production and the executive producer. And while I don’t know anything about those other shows, I imagine the staffing situation is probably quite similar. (Except Bill Mahr. He really is just a touch misogynistic. Bill, if you’re reading this, talking smack about a woman is still not cool even if they’re conservatives.)
