Last year I was misdiagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was fired for a bogus reason because I became a liability. A year later when my disability ran out and I was correctly diagnosed with a thyroid problem I wanted to go back to work but the State of California denied me unemployment as I searched earnestly for a job. They denied my unemployment because I did not earn enough income on disability and did not subsidize my disability income. I subsequently lost my home and have been homeless for three months now. My son is living separate from me. I am the 99%! Our Government is corrupt and it’s their relationship with large corporations that are making people like me suffer. People are losing their jobs because big businesses are going overseas seeking cheap labor. The list goes on. People are mad, people like my 17yr old son who will wake up Christmas morning in a strangers house, away from me for the first time in his life. My son is the 99%. He is part of the movement and he has a right to be mad. God is taking care of me and I am fortunate for that reason alone.

…except it’s mostly hippies and hipsters.

the protest definitely has purpose if you know what’s going on. I think people are just surprised it’s everyone fighting and not just young college aged hippies but Wall St. has been robbing everyone since after 9/11 (actually, probably way before that).

Maybe their message would be clearer if they made signs that were easier to read.

Since no one on the internet seems to be able to tell me what this is about, I’m going to assume it’s literally just “we hate you, rich people”.  If your protest has no purpose, how can you expect change? Ask for something. Have a singular message.

I think the point of the protest is to express frustration and dissatisfaction with the state of things. Having a well articulated and focused message is not a prerequisite to freedom of speech.  I think the message here is that frustration and anger is fairly generalized and yet aimed at financial institutions, or the institution of capitalism itself.
