Did This Eating Disorder Joke On The Disney Channel Go Too Far?
The Disney Channel is in some ~hot water~ after they made an eating disorder joke on an episode of their show “Shake It Up.” Here’s what went down. Thoughts?
2. After the episode, Demi Lovato tweeted at Disney about how inappropriate it was:
If you didn’t know, Demi Lovato was a star of Disney Channel show from 2009-2011. She went to rehab for an eating disorder earlier this year.

ekatsim a year agoI think someone needs to learn to get over things. Sure, eating disorders can be tragic, but parents seem to blame the media for their children’s behavior. Sorry, isn’t it because you’re probably a bad parent to begin with? 1) Sit down with your child for dinner instead of letting them watch TV all day.
2) Discuss why (insert X condition you blame television for) is inappropriate.
3) If your child develops a disorder based on that really stupid and unimportant (until a frigid bitch decided to stir up some drama about it) joke, seek immediate professional help. Note: If you work all day and have no time for your kids, besides thinking that this is a completely different problem in itself, then find a role model or mentor that can show your kid the right way for you. -

silverhellion a year agoIt’s a you blink you miss it kind of joke, if it weren’t for this and everyone else talking about it, a lot of people probably wouldn’t have noticed. However, Disney is on a stand where they could’ve handled it with a lot more class; but then again, they’re not Nickelodeon or WB, they don’t touch on serious subjects as much or strongly as these two do. They can, however, still bring this serious matter up as a learning moment for their audience to get help if they need it, like Ms. Lavato should’ve gotten sooner, before her breakdown and all that jazz.

Cade a year agoIt didn’t offend me, but I’m also not especially sensitive to statements/jokes about eating disabilities because I’ve had no personal experience with it, and I’ve also never worked for Disney Channel and struggled with an eating disorder while dealing with the stress of being a teenage celebrity under the scrutiny of such a massive corporation. I’m not mad about the joke, but I can understand why she would be.
