Without blackface.
kudos at least for not dressing slutty for halloween. (even if she is half naked for her day job)
Culture Buzz Whitney, Whitney, Whitney. Blackface is never acceptable! Don't post photos of yourself online if you don't want people to see them. Especially in blackface. Nice Lil Wayne costume, though.
Without blackface.
kudos at least for not dressing slutty for halloween. (even if she is half naked for her day job)
This is so ridiculous, I am black and I think black people today are so overly sensitive, while they are happy to exploit reverse racism. She paints herself to match the skin colour as the person she's being for halloween and everyone is so “shocked”, but when Dave Chappelle and the Wayans brother's do it the other way, it's ok because they're black??? Can we forget what happened 80 years ago and get into the 21st century????
This has been blown out of reality. It's Halloween and she was being specific with dressing up as Lil' Wayne. Lil' Wayne is a character that is put on for a rap career. I'd be more worried about what message is put out to the young public by Lil' Wayne and other shallow, money worshiping rap artist that continually exploit and degrade women in their videos and shows. I'm a Hip Hop fan of substance.
Are we to get upset when people dress up as American Indians, Chinese Shanghi Poster girls, Guisha girls, Mexican Banditos, French Maids, Don King, Priests and Popes etc.?
Come on, she was dressed as Lil' Wayne. Guarantee this cheerleader has bought, likes and danced to many of his songs. This was not a Black Face outfit. It was a very specific person she was dressed as for Halloween. Complete with her jeans hanging down off her ass.
My instinct says: This is bad!
But, another part of me says: Lil' Wayne is an African American; How else would she become him for Halloweenie?
Just saying…
So, does that mean, that EVERY black celebrity is off-limits as a Halloween costume? Fucking ridiculous. If she didn't paint her body with paint, no one would have gotten it. It would have looked like a half-assed-janky costume. I think she did a great job on execution! Look, I'm a mexican and I didn't ONCE get pissed off at the “slutty” mexican costume for sale at Spencer's or even at the “sexy immigration police” costume [pinche migra!]….C'mon folks, take a lesson from the lazy mexican- if we can't laugh at ourselves and each other, then we and the generations ahead of us are all fucked.
p.s- she looks really ugly and really creepy in these photos, so the joke is totally on her…
why is this even an issue? there was no intent to disrespect anybody. “imitation being the sincerest form of flattery” comes to mind. stop whining about it you fucking crybabies.
And to Andrew Parker who said: “I often wonder if Robert Downey Jr. was ever criticized for his role in Tropic Thunder?” Yes, he was. Not in the white media because they got a kick from it. Same reason they didn't criticize his OSCAR NOMINATION for the role. Like giving Al jolson an Oscar nod for The Jazz Singer. You'd have know that if you paid attention to something other than yourself. Come out of your cave sometime. You'll like it.
Let the White excuse making begin! You know, having a tradition made of lampooning you solely on the basis of your skin is always inconsequential to those who were never the target of such defamation.
Looking at the comments here I see a LOT of morons who need to be sterilized before they can pollute the gene pool further. Whitey —er, Whitney whats-her-name is a racist and ALL YOU JACKASSES DEFENDING THIS CRAP ARE RACIST!
I agree with the posters who say “why is this an issue”. As in WHY IS ANYONE DEFENDING HER?! It's not like it isn't widely known that blackface is a relic of a shameful tradition, or that it is extremely offensive. She should have known better. And blackface is *entirely* different from drag, and to try to compare the two seems to me to be disrespectful of the gender-identity issues that are embedded in the act of drag. What Ms. Isleib did was hurtful and wrong.
Oh, big fucking deal. You can't be a white Lil Wayne, that's just stupid. This doesn't even count as blackface anyway, it's not like she's wearing red lipstick and doing racist… stuff.
Precedence does not necessarily convey intent over generations. It's unsensitive logic, but it's what keeps societies away from a buffer overflow.
i wanna know what lil wayne thinks about a white chick wanting to be him
Honestly? Blackface > Dressing like a slut
Being white, I would just avoid dressing up like a black rapper for Halloween; since some people think it's offensive and others don't. I often wonder if Robert Downey Jr. was ever criticized for his role in Tropic Thunder? Kind of the same thing, right?
Its black face. Its tacky and unacceptable. There is a rich history in rascism with a white person painting their self black to entertain other white people.. There is a precedent and this is no longer acceptable. Thats the bottom line
I'm trying to decide if the two women she's posing with are shocked or indifferent. Halloween, celebrity impersonation, FTM drag….
And race-drag? It's acceptable to dress as the opposite gender for performance, costuming or impersonation… right? Hmmm… this IS a conundrum. Or as someone so thought provokingly posted: black men, dressing as white chicks. A double drag whammy?
………..
WRONG, I'm black and I dont appreciate it in any form…hence I wouldn't paint my face red if I was gonna dress as an indian and to my knowledge VERY few white ppl would do this as well. However, when it comes to dressing as a blk person white ppl are doing this more and more lately, as if numbers will lessen the old implications that accompany blk face. HOW ABOUT NOT DOING THINGS THAT CAN BE HURTFUL…seems simple enough to me.
I must say, I'm just about as shocked at some of the reactions on here as I am with this costume. This costume is not OK. It is not OK for you to think it is OK. Got it? Good.
