A veterinarian and an animal shelter owner in Sao Paulo, Brazil are fighting to save a paralyzed lion’s life. The lion, who’s name is Ariel, was born with a degenerative disease that has left him unable to use his four legs for the past year. The women have started a Facebook campaign to try to pay for his medical bills. These pictures will break your heart.
I’m torn about this. I love animals, but if he’s lying there unable to move and nothing can improve his life, I think the more humane thing would be to end his suffering. No wild animal would go on like that. He has been loved, it’s time to let go.
Unlike a human, the lion has no mental capacity with which to enjoy life. Keeping the lion alive is cruel. Are supporters of this in favor of keeping lions in zoos? If so, in zoos, you would agree that the lion’s habitat is exceedingly tiny. This lion’s habitat is zero. The lion’s quality of life is zero.
Very sad. Is that a disease that the lion can overcome and eventually have a happy life or are these women just prolonging his suffering by keeping him alive?
Shit. As someone with a degenerative disorder I’m now just bawling. Again. Thanks Buzzfeed. I’m going to go adopt another cat. Again. Third time. Bastards.
