As an OTR truck driver I was somewhere in Ohio and I approached a 4-way intersection with stop signs. There at all 3 crossroads were horse and buggy. I waited my turn and was kinda freaked out. One of the horses took a dump as it moved through the intersection. Amazing, it was like a time warp!
Don’t assume that look on their face is shame—Amish don’t use the judicial system and some take it to the extreme of contempt due to their religious beliefs. Further, if your society said that having your photograph taken would get you shunned/send you to Hell because it is Hochmud (fancy/vain), you’d avoid eye contact with the camera to protect yourself from the temptation and nervousness regarding the whole unfamiliar process of this picture taking.
I’ve actually lived in an Amish community in Ohio, and all the families i met use the reflective triangles. Not using them is really dangerous. There are buggy/car accidents all the time, and entire Amish families get killed. The walls on those buggies are made from pressed cardboard. A kid I knew as a teenager recently lost his wife and baby that way. Just saying’, it’s a serious issue.
Snow White will not be happy when she find out the dwarfs were arrested.
