You’d think that Warner Bros. would have took out all the attractions at Six Flags by now but they’re still standing. Way to go WB for not caring about your property.

I grew up near New Orleans and visited frequently as a kid, teenager, and adult. It was and remains a vibrant, colorful and unbelievably fun city to visit. Posting these pictures, which are very selective, works to undermine how hard people have worked to rebuild in the past 6 years. New Orleans needs a tourism boost, not for some creepy pictures on the internet to deter people who thought they wanted to go into reconsidering because they think it looks like Silent Hill. That said, you can always volunteer to help rebuild in the Lower 9th Ward with groups like Habitat for Humanity. As far as volunteer trips go, you really couldn’t do better than New Orleans since once you’re finished building for the day you have such a bright and wonderful city to play in! (Bonus: You might see Brad Pitt or John Goodman since they live there)

i also live in new orleans, and i have to go along with all that are saying these photos are selective. yes six flags looks like that, because no ones touched it… but these houses and buildings are only in certain areas and surrounded by the rest of the very much alive and thriving city. this makes new orleans look deserted and hollow, which it is far from.

someone film an end of the world/zombie type movie here STAT.

I also live in New Orleans and these are not at all representative of the city as a whole. Yes, there are some abandoned buildings in select neighborhoods but in no way does this look like my NOLA. Also, it seems that a large chunk of these are from Six Flags that never reopened (which you can’t even see unless you drive 20 mins east and hop a fence) and the lower ninth ward.

To be fair, the Joy theater (64) looked like that pre-Katrina.

it’s been 5 years…i guess i can understand the businesses/public property, but the residential houses?! Don’t the people who own them care about their homes or just need somewhere to live? I mean, I live in CA where all we have are earthquakes, but I know the first thing I do is call my insurance company.
I had always thought New Orleans would be somewhere fun to visit but seeing these pictures, I’m a little creeped out…

Silent Hill?

It looks like the end of the world. Much like something you would see in the video game Fallout.

Seriously misinformed. New Orleans isn’t a shell of what it used to be. Life there wasn’t “stopped in its tracks”. Much of the city has been rebuilt, all while businesses, communities and people have worked through the disaster since day 1. There is a wonderful, beautiful balance of resilience and camaraderie that the citizens of NOLA share; reducing it to a collection of selective images, deeming the city “abandoned”, is cheap.

For some reason seeing the calendar from August 2005 still up on the wall really did me in. Everything stopped in its tracks when that happened..and you’d think that wouldn’t happen here

Actually, i live in new Orleans and I have to say that these photos are very selective. The whole city does not look like this. There are many neighborhoods with houses that look like these but much has been rebuilt and this is not shown. As for the schools, many are still in disrepair, but mostly to be demolished for new ones like L. B. Landry. Not all is sad here.

All the pictures of Jazzland/Six Flags New Orleans… just break my heart. I can’t count how many summers I spent running around that park with my friends. The pictures of the lower 9th ward are truly sad… some people are still living in squalor, and New Orleans doesn’t feel the same anymore.  I know what it means to miss New Orleans.
