Baby steps, and celebrate small victories. On days when I’m too depressed to get out of bed I make it my goal to go to my mailbox and get the mail. If I can do that then I commend myself for being able to get out of bed, leave my apt, and go out into the world and function (even if it’s just for a minute.) Some days I may be able to accomplish more small goals (eating, showering, getting dressed etc.) and other times I can’t, but at the end of the day I can say I did something productive and that I didn’t succumb to my depression. That always helps me feel a little bit better.
