In the military, we get 30 days paid leave a year. Do we ever get to use those days? Not really. We can save and hoard our days until it balloons to 45 days or more, but you can never use them. Now they have “use or lose days.” If you exceed 75 (that’s an estimate) days of accumulated leave and don’t take them, you lose the excess. We can’t take leave because of the “mission.” There is always something going on and your leave can always get cancelled at the last second. I remember, as a civilian, I could only get retail jobs at the time. You had to be there a year before they let you have any amount of time off and it wasn’t paid either. I couldn’t afford to ever take time off. I didn’t get paid enough. That was my gas money and car insurance money. It’s a vicious cycle. It’s a shame Americans can’t get time to relax, ever.
